The Northern Ireland Grain Trade Association (NIGTA) recently hosted its 59th Annual Dinner, which celebrated the essential role of the agri-supply sector at the heart of local agriculture and the wider economy.
At its core, the dinner recognised the people behind the work. Beyond the day-to-day operations, the relationships, partnerships, and shared commitment across the sector are what sustain progress and innovation.
NIGTA President, Aidan Fisher, commented on the “enviable strength” of the Northern Ireland agri-food industry being its willingness to collaborate. The Association places great value on the commitment from members and supply chain partners in working together to address issues of mutual concern. He also praised the resilience of the industry in navigating current supply chain and environmental challenges, while looking forward to future opportunities.
The “Toast to Our Guests” was proposed by Bobby Irwin, Co-Chair of the NIGTA Feed Sustainability Committee. He extended a warm welcome to attendees from across Northern Ireland’s agri-food industry and regulatory agencies, as well as representatives from NIGTA’s sister associations across the British Isles, reinforcing the shared interests and cooperation that define the sector.
A highlight of the evening was the guest speaker, Nigel Owens MBE, the former international rugby referee. With humour and honesty, he entertained guests with stories from his distinguished career, while also delivering a powerful and deeply personal account of his struggles with mental health—an address that resonated strongly with the President’s chosen charity for the evening – Rural Support.
While the final total of donations is yet to be confirmed, sincere thanks were extended to NIGTA members and guests for their generosity in supporting a cause that provides a crucial lifeline to those in need within the farming community.
